Today is Valentine's Day. Why did he buy me an orchid? ?

First I want to share this
I found this pretty box at the thrift store and could not pass it up. It was so pretty and worn.
So today it sits on my guest room bed.
Someone... somewhere... one time received this pretty box filled with luscious chocolates on Valentine's Day. I wonder. Were they a young sweet couple new in love? Or were they an older couple that shared many years of Valentine days together.
Was the heart shaped box of candy a tradition? Was the chocolate's calorie free?

Now about my Orchid

Hubby usually buys me roses on Valentine's Day. I love roses. The thing with roses is that I enjoy them for days and just before they start to lose their luster and petals I tie them with a ribbon and hang them upside down to dry.
I love using them in my little vignettes throughout my home.

I have never owned an orchid plant. My orchid plant is pretty and the directions say they only require 3 ice cubes a day. I am not sure if they will survive in our house with the wood burning stove that gets as hot as hades.
Anyway, it was a sweet gift from my hubby. I will fix him a nice steak dinner and Red Velvet cupcakes for this evening.
But today... I am going out and buy myself some roses.

11-11-11 only comes around every one hundred years so...let's have a wedding. Let's let mom know about it on 11-09-11. Watch mom and sis scurry around and put a small wedding together in less than 48 hours. Let's go shopping for the perfect dress, shoes and veil 24 hours before the special day. Gotta get a cake ordered and gather everything we need for a reception as quick as possible. Grab an old metal arch and wrap it with burlap, fall foliage and lights. Make two topiaries with pumpkins and winter squash and more burlap and lights! Put it all together without a wedding rehearsal . Call the family and close friends and tell them to lay aside Friday nights plans because we are having a wedding for the sweetest couple

We've got the itch, folks!

Yes, it is only late January and we have two more months of winter.
Yes, we have been having 60 and 70 highs for weeks.
Yes, those temps could turn into a record snow storm and record freezing temperatures in a blink of an eye because we live in Oklahoma!
But... the stores are putting out seeds and onion sets and seed potatoes.
So... we buy them up thinking we can make Spring get here faster that way!

I sell a lot of my things at Little Bit of Country in Sapulpa,

Toot to-da loo!
It's time to open da presents!

The day after Thanksgiving I worked fast and furious getting ready for Christmas. I crafted, baked, cut and sewed, glued and pasted...well, you know how I am. Then in a blink of an eye Christmas Eve was here. The kids and grandmunchkins gathered in.There was so much fun and excitement in the air. We all could not wait to get through the food so we could open PRESENTS! We all turned into excited 3 year olds! It was so much fun!

I need to stand this package so you can get the full affect that those are candy canes on the paper. Ribbon is actually and old torn tablecloth stained and distressed. BINGO card torn and glittered tag.

mo' Christmas going on

My sweet hubby gave me an iPad a couple of weeks ago. Do I love it? Yes. Am I going to marry it? No. Here's why. It is very expensive to operate out her in Podunkville where internet is a very foreign, alien like object. Even as I type on "ye old personal computer" I know that I could possible be kicked off internet connection at any given moment. Anyway, first of all I don't do well with change. I liked my computer and my printer/scanner setup. I have a small business as some of you know called Bunderosa Queen where I make various silly cards and things (whatever hits me at a whim). I copy old photos and make cards and oh well, on and on I rattle.
I can take a picture my iPad but it looks grainy. I cannot print the picture or scan it or anything. Just post it on my Facebook or this blog (and it is small on my blog...boohoo!). Good grief, I bet you are tired of me whining, huh?

Anyway, I am going to try to post some pics of my Christmas wrapping that I did today which is why I title this post "mo' Christmas going on" in the first place.
That's all.

After trying out several different tree toppers from vintage glass to paper wings I came up with this one. I love it! Funny thing is that it was something I made awhile back and had it hanging on my wall. It is made out of old dictionary pages. In the center is a glitter crown and the word QUEEN. Hehe!!

Anyway, here is another view of the top of my tree.

The holidays always begin at our house with the November birthdays. My two oldest kiddos both were born days before Thanksgiving and so we celebrate...birthday, birthday, Thanksgiving, grandson's birthday, Christmas Eve party, Christmas, New Years Eve, baby girls birthday...and on and on we go.
We had a nice birthday dinner with our kids and some friends.

2011 Bunderosa Fall Bash

Here are a few pics from our recent Fall party on the Bunderosa.
We had quite a crowd of family and friends this year.

There was lots of homemade chili, hotdogs to roast, cookies and a big apple cobbler.

Good food and good friends are always a great combination.

It was quite chilly on the Bunderosa but be assured my hubby always builds
a huge "bonfire" (towering inferno).
You could hardly get close enough to roast your hotdogs and marshmallows. Fun!

I made a pumpkin pinata out of a brown paper bag. Here is my grandson Chase taking a swing. Several other children gave it a try but it only took one hard hit by Chantry and the candy went flying!

The hayride was a hit! We used the 4-wheeler instead of the tracker this year. My daughter Amanda was the driver. Her dad said "Keep it in first gear". haha!

The Musical Fruit with Ham

We sang this childish little ditty when we were children and tried to pretend that we did not like beans. But I have yet to see any hungry person turn down these tiny delectable morsels. Wednesday I cooked up 4 lbs of beans and ham. With this I was able to get over 9 quarts of gaseous goodness! It's going to be great to pop open a jar of beans and ham when the snow flies!

Crazy Ready for Fall

I wish I could say..."Look at all the pumpkins we grew this year"!
But, no. It was just too hot all summer.
Besides being too hot there were a lot of mean bugs that wanted to kill and destroy any green vegetation around the Bunderosa.

So this year I will have to resort to:

THE FAKE PUMPKIN!

I am finding that fake pumpkins are very expensive these days. I believe they were priced around $22 at Michaels and Hobby Lobby. Sheesh!

I found some cute ones at my friendly Walmart for $4.97. Not too bad.

Last weekend my sweet daughter and I decided we wanted new Fall wreaths. Again, we visited Hobby Lobby and found their wreaths were as high as $200! Are you kidding me?!
No way, Hozay! Then I remembered that there were some wild grapevines growing on the Bunderosa. So daughter and I bought up some fall garland, pumpkins and flowers at said Hobby Lobby and headed back home.

"We will make our own "dern" wreaths" we proclaimed!

Here she is with her grapevine wreath. She did not want hers very thick because she has a glass door in front of her main door that would not shut properly.
Isn't she so cute!

I've been thinking a lot here lately about food. And I think about the fact that there are a lot of people in this world.

People eat food. Lots of food. What would happen if the grocery stores ran out of food? People would go crazy! Right?

That brings me to the the question. Are you the ant or the grasshopper? Do you remember reading the Æsop fable The Ant and the Grasshopper? It goes like this:

In a field one summer’s day a Grasshopper was hopping about, chirping and singing to its heart’s content. An Ant passed by, bearing along with great toil an ear of corn he was taking to the nest.

“Why not come and chat with me,” said the Grasshopper, “instead of toiling and moiling in that way?”

“I am helping to lay up food for the winter,” said the Ant, “and recommend you to do the same.”

“Why bother about winter?” said the Grasshopper; “we have got plenty of food at present.” But the Ant went on its way and continued its toil. When the winter came the Grasshopper had no food, and found itself dying of hunger, while it saw the ants distributing every day corn and grain from the stores they had collected in the summer. Then the Grasshopper knew:

“IT IS BEST TO PREPARE FOR THE DAYS OF NECESSITY.”

I know that we all that live in America think that everything is always going to be pretty rosey. There is always gonna be plenty of food and water to go around. Come on, pull your head out of the sand!

I hate to be the one to break it to you but THERE'S A STORM COMING!

I know, I know. A lot of you are great farmers. But will your farms feed you and your family when there is no access to food?

I don't think so.

Aspiring Homemaker's Oatmeal-Cranberry White Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe

Oatmeal-Cranberry White Chocolate Chip Cookies

Ingredients: 2/3 cup butter, 2/3 cup brown sugar, 2 eggs, 2 cups oats, 2 cups flour, 1 tsp baking soda, 1/2 tsp salt, 1 cup dried cranberries, 2/3 cup white chocolate chips.

*~*

Mix first 3 ingredients well, then add the dry ingredients in a little at a time. Finish off by adding the cranberries and chocolate chips...bake in a 350 degree oven for 10-15 mins or until golden.

We have managed to grow cucumbers during all this drought. I finally had enough to make a batch of pickles. I was wanting a sweet crisp garlic dill with a little zing. I combined a sweet pickle recipe that my aunt gave me and added a kosher dill pickle mix, extra garlic and a hot pepper. They turned out so delicious! I only made 6 quarts this round. Hopefully I can make more later.
I sure will be glad when this hot spell is over! It has been unbearable!

An Affair

an Affair of the Heart, that is. 1st daughter and I went today. We both thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, spent money and got sore feet. There were so many booths full of baby tulle skirts, colorful hairbows, birdhouses, jewelry and on and on! I bought a birdhouse and a pair of pretty sandals. No, they are not comfortable.
For those of you who read the recently deleted post about the Affair of the Heart and the BBQ I have something to say. First of all, the dinner cooking in the KIA was a joke. No one commented except my daughter and she said when she first read it she thought I was serious. She has only known me for 28+ years! You would think she would know my humor by now. Anyway, for those of you that read such post know that I was joking.

All we Okies want to talk about is the weather.
It is sooo hot and dry.
The temps have stayed at 100 plus for weeks now.

Even my chickens are worried.

"I'm worried".

And thirsty.

"I'm so thirsty".

Hubs is determined to get use of his new
mower.

I say "Give it up, hubs"!

It's pointless to water the garden anymore.

So he has resorted to "dirting" the garden.

This heat has played havoc on my skin.
"My skin is so dry".

My coleus has even dried up!

If he keeps digging he'll end up in China!

Remember the free mirror that I got while in Kansas? Here it is!
I love my new cabinets and countertop and Delta fixtures!

We put two large cabinet units together to create this armoire.
Everyone loves the aged finish I created.

New tile and Delta fixtures.
We kept the big old tub and will have it refinished later.

New toilet with a great non-slam safety lid.
(Safe for those little grandsons)

I finally got the gal covered in burlap strips. Isn't she lovely.
My family hates my mannequins. Too bad.

Sneak peek of my new cabinets :)

Well the weekend was a busy time for me taking that trip to KS for the baby girl. I had a lot of fun (if you read my previous post). Sunday I did a little laundry, a little resting up, and attended midday church. Then that horrible tornado hit Joplin, MO! So sad for all those people!
Monday morning it was back to painting those cabinets in the newly remodeled bathroom. I'm almost finished! I just need to finish antiquing some of the cabinet doors and re-do that awesome free mirror today. I can hardly wait to post pictures. I took a few before pics so you will be able to see the transformation.
Dreading bad weather this evening. The forecast is for severe thunderstorms with hail and tornadoes! Hopefully we won't get blown away.

Road Trip

I took a little road trip yesterday through Kansas. Baby girl wanted to meet up with her beau and so I was the taxi. After I dumped her off I enjoyed the rest of the day stopping wherever I wanted. Fun, fun, fun!

This store was awesome! It was chock full of cool stuff and had a little bistro inside. I will definitely go back there again! I bought a nice little house warming gift for my daughter. If she reads my blog and comments about the gift I will give it to her. Haha!

It is weird that I thought this old silver trailer house was cool and that I thought it would be fun to own.

There were lots of homes like this one. I want this!

I have been searching high and low for a mirror for the new bathroom. Yesterday I stopped in a little shop in KS and was admiring this mirror and the lady working there asked me if I wanted it. "Are you giving it away?" I asked. Yep!
I will probably paint and crackle finish this baby and put it in my new bathroom. Pictures later!

Really, I did not need another piece of old luggage but this was too awesome to pass up! It will probably end up in my new bathroom. Maybe...

I loved the saying on this wooden cutting board. It will hang boldly in my new kitchen someday!

I have a weakness for metal colanders.

Last but not least I could not resist this tea towel with the painted embroidered turkey. I will save this for Thanksgiving holiday. Oh, I only gave .50 for it!

Mother's in my life

The most precious woman in the world to me is my mother. She has taught me so many, many things throughout my life. I remember as a very young girl looking up to her and thinking "I want to be like you, mama". I wanted to grow up and marry a man just like she married. I wanted to have babies and love them like she loved my sisters and me. I wanted to cook good food like she did. I wanted to keep a home like she did where when people came to visit they enjoyed being there. She made my sisters friends and my friends feel like family. There were times when we brought friends home with us because there was turmoil in their lives and she gave them a place to stay and feel safe. Through the years she has helped us through hurting times and hard times. She has been with us when babies, grandbabies and great-grandbabies were born. She has been love and strength for all of us. We truly call her blessed!

A son-in-law and a daughter-in-law and two grandbabies are also pictured. The two older ladies sitting down is my paternal great-grandmother and maternal great-grandmother.

Bathroom Remodeling and Baby Girl took a jet plane

This pic is quite embarrassing but here it goes! (it is Lulu's job to keep it clean and she is a slacker at times)
All the fixtures have been removed (thank God) and new plumbing has been put in. I wanted to keep the huge tub (hubby was glad about that). It is deep and wide (like that Sunday School song) and soon there will be a fountain flowing from the Delta Victorian style faucets (in bronze finish).

This is sort of what the ceramic wall tile is like that hubby is putting around the tub.
The tile is 6 X 6 and a lighter gold tone.

My Lulu hopped on a plane yesterday and headed for Omaha, NE to see her feller.
This is starting to look serious, folks!

I have been looking high and low for some iris plants for a quite a while now. Last week I spotted some growing on my sisters vacant property. She told me to get all I wanted. Well you know I did! I made two flower beds around a couple of maple trees. I can hardly wait for the blooms!

I could not pass up this lamp. It is quite tall and has 4 candelabras. I gave $7 for it.

Not quite finished. I think I will stain the white a little to give it an aged look. I used the same shade and covered it with pages out of a very old book. Pretty cool?

I saved the toilet tissue cardboard then cut them in half.
With a little potting soil I started some tomato and pepper seeds. They are coming along fine!

Well, out of the 18 eggs in the incubator I had one little Rhode Island Red hatch. I guess the others were bad or non fertile. So I went to the feed store and bought a couple of Bantams so Little Uno would not be lonely. I will be saving up another batch of eggs for the incubator and try again later.

Lulu and I went on a little road trip to Kansas City, KS this weekend. As I zoomed down the road to get to our destination I noticed all the beautiful old barns in Kansas. I wanted to snap pictures but like I said I was zooming. I didn't take any on the way home either. So I found some great ones on the internet. I love old barns. Love them.

I am not happy right now. A few days ago I noticed that my chickens had run scared back into their house. Hmmm, what's going on? On closer inspection there were a couple of hens hiding in the blackberry patch. There I also found one of my hens...dead!!! What killed my little red hen? The fence is good all around the pen so I knew nothing got in there. Plus, there would probably been a chicken massacre if dogs or coyotes had gotten in.
Then yesterday I had left the house and when I pulled up in the yard I noticed the chickens were not out pecking and scratching around. Looking closer I noticed a HUGE hawk in my chicken yard! I grabbed a stick (cause that's what you do, I guess) and slowly walked towards it. I got pretty close to it but it flew over the fence and then away! Two hens were hiding in the blackberry patch and there I found another dead hen!

After reading http://oklahome.blogspot.com/ post this morning it got me to reminiscing of my Pollard family.
This week we lost another aunt. Aunt Christine was married to my mother's brother Otis. My mother's name is Margaret Geneva. She was a Pollard Okie from Eufaula/Onapa area. The Pollard's were a big family of 14-1 children to L B and Perl. There are only 4 surviving girls now. The rest are in the Checotah cemetery.

I put my order in early this Valentine's Day. As you all know I love roses. My husband usually buys me roses so this year I requested a Pink Double Knock-out rose bush.
He bought me two! Yay!

I planted one last year in front of our propane tank (to hide it). Yesterday we planted the two new ones on each side of last years bush.
Anyway, I think they are going to do great. I will post pictures this summer. :)

I bought him two blueberry plants. Now we have four!

I have a bad case of cabin fever

We have not even had a full month of winter and I am already going berserk. Ok, I am berserk-er.
I go outdoors and all I see is blahhh. Blah dead grass, blah dirt, blah this and blah that. Indoors I clean and do laundry, fix food, eat food, clean kitchen blah blah blah. I am pathetic.
Tomorrow I will go to Atwoods and stare at the new seed packets they just got in.

Unfortunately, I decided to take pictures a little after the demolition began.
Not that it mattered.

Some of the sheetrock had already been removed and new insulation put in.
Pretty , huh?

A very hard workin' man!

Yes, my friends that IS some sort of dining room light hanging from the bedroom ceiling. Don't ask why it is there (long story). It was a tough decision whether to keep it or not. It took me less than 1/10 of a second to decide that it had to go.
And why did I crave cottage cheese when I looked up at the ceiling? One of life's many mysteries, I guess.

AfterThis is a sneak peek of my closet. I got my leopard carpet and I LOVE IT! Anyway, hubby still needs to build my shoe racks! I wish he would hurry! haha!

Delta Victorian Style faucets

Lightly distressed and stained cabinets.
Still looking for the right wood to put my towel racks on.

I didn't get a picture of the tub and toilet. The tub is a white single piece fiberglass tub/shower. We now have a large shower head! All faucets are the Delta Victorian style in brushed nickel.

I love my new bathroom!

I didn't buy boxed Christmas cards this year. I have a difficult time with that anyway. I love uniqueness. Soooo, I made a few and gave them to some of my special peoples! Now I am itching to make more but have no time. Merry Christmas!

The next day I found this little vintage snowman at the thrift store.
