Some Very Awesome Ladies!

On the left is my Aunt Inez. She is almost 91 and is sharp as a tack! She is a hoot! We laughed all day at her stories. The middle lady is my precious mother. The lady on the right is my Aunt Mary. She always has so many stories about when they were all kids. I could listen to Aunt Mary, Aunt Inez, and my mom tell stories all day.

Thriftin' Thursday

This trunk was a real bargain! I love using trunks and old suitcases for storage. I will probably use this in my Big Rusty Barn Sale this Fall.

I have been collecting vintage metal tins for awhile now. I really like the Christmas ones but when I saw this one today I just had to have it. I will probably keep buttons in it.

This vase is perfect for my future cut roses. I know my Mr. Lincoln rose bush is not gonna fail me this summer. I get the most gorgeous long stem roses from that bush! And their aroma is delicious!

Lovin' These Sunny Summer Days!

I know, I know. I post more pics of this bird than I do of my children. But just look at him. Ain't he handsome? He has really been strutting his stuff in the chicken pen these days. He crows and fluffs his feathers and really gives the girls a run for their money!

Here's a pic of my bloomin' pumpkin plants! I am really excited about my pumpkins! I planted more lumina's a couple of days ago. Hubby thinks I have plenty. He has no idea just how many pumpkins I really want. He has NO idea.

Aren't these blackberries pretty? I just love the colors. And let me tell ya' these berries are sweet! I can hardly wait until I can pick a whole bucket full!

A Very Good First Day of Summer!

Saturday afternoon Huge Sale finds!

Just look at the treasures! Four dolly's, Ole' Glory, Sweetest Apron, 4 canning jars, several jar rings (for later), crochet doilie, Ceramic rooster (to join the others on my kitchen window sill, ceramic wren (so cute!), hand-crochet lace trim, and the wooden Coca-Cola crate (I will put it outside somewhere). All this for $3. mm mm mmm!
This Big Red Wagon is not just any old big red wagon. It was driven and pulled probably hundreds if not thousands of miles by my little children whom are now all grown up. I planted some Moss Rose in it yesterday. This wagon and I will never part.

We Are Going Nuts!
Hubby and I talked about planting pecan trees on this property when we got enough money to get the trees. Well, my sweet brother-in-law (Hubby's baby brother) brought us a bunch of pecan trees that came up in his yard. I just love the way God uses people to bless our lives.

I just love peaches. I do believe the peach is my very favorite fruit! I wish I could say that our peach tree is loaded with peaches but I think Hubby counted only six. They sure look yummy. Maybe next year we'll get a bumper crop!

Big Rusty Barn Sale this Fall.

I trudged around in the mud (wearing my rubber boots, of course) and pulled weeds away from my herb garden. Wow, that was a job! Then I decided to plant my birdhouse gourd seeds. If they grow the way I invision them to grow they will be hanging from the roof of my potting shed.

I hope, I hope, I hope!

The forecast says sunny days this weekend and that is real exciting to me! Our poor garden is so very wet and nothing wants to grow. I guess the plants feel waterlogged. I did dig up a potato the other day. I cooked it with some green beans and let hubby eat it. Generous. huh? (It was about the size of a walnut).

Hubby bought a brand new 4-wheeler. You know what that means...something else for me to worry about. Just when I cast my troubles to the Lord then I am burdened with a new worry. We don't even own a helmet! And yes, everyone wants to see how fast they can make it go. See what I mean?

2008 Summer Garden Tour

I like this black and white with much emphasis on Old Glory.
Hubby and I are thinking of someday making this a screened in porch.
It would make a great place to sleep in the summertime!
The table cloth is actually a quilt top that my mother-in-law pieced together.
Maybe someday I will make a quilt out of it. It is huge! I found that little beaded purse a few years ago at a thrift store and the flowers grow wild on our property.

I love to sit here with my coffee in the mornings.

Working on Fall sale projects

Well there is one good thing about it raining nonstop. It forces me to work on my Fall sale projects! Here is a little apron that I made yesterday. I am loving the bright colors and the retro print on this one! I have visions of tons of colorful apron ideas. I wish I could just twinkle my nose and they would appear! Lots to do, lots to do!

My First Herb Harvest

Sweet Basil

Saturday I got to harvest my first batch of sweet basil. I sure was wishing I had some mozzarella cheese and fresh tomatoes to go with it. I chopped it up, added some olive oil, garlic powder, and a little salt, bagged it up and put it in the freezer for later use.

Me and LuLu took a quick little trip to the T-store today. I wanted a pair of denim jeans to make into a jean skirt for myself. Of course, I found a few other treasures while I was there!

I have always had a fondness for pretty stationary. Don't get me wrong. I love to get email but "snail mail" is still my very favorite way to correspond! This pretty pink vintage box of stationary was only $.50! (whisper...Don't be surprised if you get a letter from me.)

Here is my $1.00 bargain. An old BOSTON Vacuum Mount pencil sharpener!

Yep, it still works with a little woman power!

Bonus: I wanted my little grandmunchkin to see one of these.

Just a little note to say...

First of all I want to say that we had a nice 30th Anniversary. No, we did not go out...too tired! Hubby grilled the most fantastic steaks along with baked potato and salad . I set a pretty table of roses and candles. Hubby wants to buy me a 4-wheeler! He is buying himself one and wants me to have one also so we can drive off into the wild-blue yonder, I guess. Anyway, sounds good to me.

Secondly, my daughter Amanda has been telling her friends about this blog. I just want to say hello to all of you who peek in. Blooms and Words

Remember earlier in the Spring when I took a hammer to that broken bird bath? Here are a couple of pics with the worded pieces in my flower bed. They look much better now with those bright impatiens blooms around them, don't ya think?

My Bloomin' Wreath

I finally got around and made a Summer wreath for my front door! It just looked naked without a wreath. Door wreaths always seem so inviting! I used one of my grapevine wreaths that I had made earlier. I like the color combinations real well. I am especially fond of sunflowers and roses together.

This is not a real clear picture. I was really happy with the finished look.

Here is what they looked like before I painted them. My whole house has these same cabinets. Yuck!



Here is another "after" pic.

I painted the cabinets a buttery white and then went over them with a brown stain. I immediately wiped them down letting the stain stay in the grooves to give an antique look. Afterwards I distressed them a little. I was quite surprised that Hubby liked them. I can hardly wait to do more now!

Yesterday morning Hubby and I were talking about the chickens (people my age tend to talk about important topics such as chickens or the weather or the garden). Anyway, I told him I was pretty sure one of my chickens was a rooster (the one I have been calling Rhett). Hubby said well if so he will be trying to crow pretty soon. Moments later as Hubby was loading up his truck out in the barn I heard a noise and said "What was that"? Hubby says "I think that was Willie" (the dawg). Well, I stepped out of the barn to let the chickens out and there I heard Rhett making an attempt to crow! It was a little weak but I was still proud of him.

Mmmm...I smell homebaked bread!

I just thought I would try my hand at making some bread since I am practically Laura Ingalls now. I found an easy recipe on the "net" ( yeah, but I bet Laura would have used the internet if she could have).

The loaf turned out real pretty. Egads!! There is a roll missing!! How did that happen!?

The bread turned out quite yummy! I can do this!

Rubber Boots or Homemade Ice Cream?

First of all, Happy June 2008!

Isn't this the time of year that you are suppose to be making homemade ice cream? You know, just a nice warm sunny day sitting on the porch with a bowl of that cold, creamy delight being careful not to eat it too fast for fear of "brain freeze"? Instead, because of all the rain, I am trudging around in my rubber boots while doing my outdoor chores. Squeesh! Squeesh!

BTW, I did not let this wet weather stop me! I made some awesome Butterfinger Frozen Custard on Memorial Day! Mmmmm...it was delish!
